About US Export Control

The

SmartMesh library

contains encryption/decryption functions.  Customers who plan to export products from the US that contain software built using the OCSDK are required to comply with Export Administration Regulations (EAR) issued by the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security.   Please consult your company's legal counsel or trade compliance expert for guidance on how to navigate the EAR process.

All LTC5800-based products contain hardware AES–128 support, and implement a CCM* stream cipher using 128-bit symmetric keys in the library, providing confidentiality and authentication for radio packets.  Linear has received an Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) of 5D002 for our SmartMesh software built using the OCSDK library, and 5A002 for devices based on the LTC5800 chip. Customers must determine an appropriate classification depending upon their product's specifics.  Linear's LTC5800-based products and software are on the Commodity Control List (CCL) in Category 5 part 2.  These parts do not currently have any reporting requirements.

Relevant documents to review include Part 740.17 (Encryption Commodities, Software and Technology) and part 742.15 (Encryption Items) as well as the Technical Questionnaire for Encryption Items in Supplement 6 to Part 742.
