Lab 33. Half-Day Unplugfest! focuses on how to build a canopy network using IBM Bluemix. In this lab, your instructor has already built that canopy network. You will learn how to use it.

The Smart Building Canopy

The canopy network consists of a number of SmartMesh IP networks deployed throughout your building, all connected to the IBM Watson IoT platform.

IBM Watson IoT itself runs as a service in IBM Bluemix, the cloud service operated by IBM.

Throughout the following labs you will:

attach sensors to your motes
deploy the motes in your building; they join the canopy network
create your own account on IBM Bluemix and start a Node-RED instance which runs continuously
build a web interface using Node-RED
interact with your mote(s) from your phone

Visualizing the Network Topology

Open https://makeamesh.eu-gb.mybluemix.net/, i.e. the web front-end of the "makeamesh" server running on IBM Bluemix
You will see a topology similar to the following:
